High-Performance Materials for Component Repair

Lufthansa Technik Intercoat, our joint venture with Intercon Holding GmbH (49 percent), specializes in the repair of components, damaged by wear, corrosion, and cavitation, with the Advanced Epoxy Coating Process. Components which, in the past, would have been scrapped can now be refurbished. 

The proven repair procedure called INTERFILL® has been continuously improved over the years. INTERFILL® is a material that has been tested for airworthiness and which not only restores the usability of the components, but also leaves them with better operational characteristics than they had in the original state.

The INTERFILL® material is manufactured by Lufthansa Technik Intercoat, tested and certified by an accredited independent laboratory to ensure product integrity and reliability.

The Advanced Epoxy Coating Process is approved by the EASA, FAA and CAAC. INTERFILL®-Repair Solutions have been chosen by many major airlines, overhaul facilities and OEM’s worldwide to solve their maintenance problems.

Advanced Epoxy Coating Process

INTERFILL®?  What is it? 

The key component of the Advanced Epoxy Coating Process is the INTERFILL® material, which is an airworthiness approved material, whereby the mechanical properties are namely based on Epoxy Resins, slightly influenced by the natural characteristics of the individual dry lubricant fillers. Choosing the matching fillers, regarding to the base material of the repaired part and the given conditions, is one of the most difficult steps within our engineers work process. The main criterion of the Advanced Epoxy Coating Process is a good wear characteristic, smooth surface quality and good performance against foreign object damages.

Our solutions 

Aviation

The Advanced Epoxy Coating Process using the INTERFILL® material, is used to repair worn, corroded and/or eroded piece parts out of engine, aircraft and helicopters; parts that must meet exact criteria of operation, reliability and safety. You’ll see the enormous potential of INTERFILL® when conventional repair methods fail and parts normally need to be scrapped. This is the moment when you consider INTERFILL® as a powerful tool to salvage your component. 

The base material properties remain unaffected, even if repeated several times. Our Epoxy alloy INTERFILL® is applied as a paste and then hardened by curing to develop its special characteristics and can therefore be added on previous applications. 

Typical applications in Aviation are:

  • Engine & APU related components (fuel, oil & pneumatic systems, etc.)
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic components (especially chassis components)
  • Cylinder
  • Actuators
  • Valves

Industry

Parts don't just break, corrode, or sustain damage that would normally lead to disposal in the aviation industry—it happens elsewhere, too. Our Advanced Epoxy Coating Process using the INTERFILL® material can help there as well. We also perform repairs on worn, corroded and/or eroded piece parts out of railway vehicles / freight cars, gas turbines and marine engines. These parts must also meet exact criteria of operation, reliability and safety.
