Tour de Technik

Ambassadors on the road

23 colleagues - 6 days on tour through Germany

We are cycling through Germany: 23 of our employees ride through Germany on their racing bikes in their free time as ambassadors for Lufthansa Technik. They represent a "naturalcross-section of our company. If they hadn't come together as a cycling team, they could also have released an aircraft to service or developed new products together. In order to recharge their batteries to gain new ideas and solutions for our customers, these colleagues have chosen a particularly demanding path:
Together they will conquer daily stages of up to 222 km and overcome a total of 7,500 meters of altitude - in just six days.

This is our "Excellence in Motion".

Personal challenge and doing good at the same time

This is a matter close to the hearts of many participants! That's why they are happy if as many people as possible support their torment by donating to Lufthansa Group's aid organization helpalliance. So that others who are facing really serious challenges can also be helped.

Thank you for your support!

Meet the team

Initiator

Dirk Julius

Initiator, motivator and conscientious organizer who leaves nothing to chance - that describes Dirk, who set up the Tour de Technik. With a great deal of North German chutzpah, he motivated 23 colleagues to get excited about the idea of cycling through Germany together. And he spares no effort to do so. In his day-to-day work, the Quality Manager from the design organisation ensures that all processes required by the authorities are mapped in IT in such a way that his colleagues in production and engineering can work with as little friction as possible. And that's exactly what he will be ensuring at the Tour de Technik: he wants nothing more than for all participants to arrive in Munich safe and sound, stress-free and having a lot of fun.

Thinker

Benny Lueddecke

For Benny riding a racing bike means “me-time”. Nowhere can he switch off as well as on one of his four racing bikes - all high-tech, of course. The former soldier is particularly looking forward to the team experience at the Tour de Technik, because he knows that camaraderie, or “team spirit”, also exists, especially among Lufthansa employees. True to Lufthansa Technik's purpose: “With our passion for aviation we make the world take off. And with our passion for cycling we make our legs flying”.

Power woman

Violetta Bendig

No one has more to offer than Violetta. And not just in terms of the number of racing jerseys she wears, of which she owns 37. The mechanical engineer's favorite gadget is the starting number on her helmet from Grejsdalsløbet, the toughest Danish cycling race. Professionally, Violetta optimizes the repair of the new Trent XWB and Trent 1000 engine models. For her most frequently used racing bike, the system engineer prefers the classic design with an aluminium frame. Her wish for herself and the team: “Arrive safely”.

The Supporters

Trevor Meyer - his high-tech bike is called “Flitzi 8” (which translates in English roughly to “Scooty 8”), no joke. It doesn't matter whether Trevor Meyer reaches the many destinations he still wants to cycle to on Flitzi. Because no matter which bike he’s on, he loves the feeling of freedom, adventure and speed when he’s out and about. As a trained engine mechanic and current Engine Event Manager for CFM56 engines, who is primarily responsible for fulfillment, he can easily draw parallels with road cycling. The following applies to both: “The pain goes away. The pride remains.”

Sebastian Deutschmann - he simply wants to cycle through Germany on behalf of Lufthansa Technik. It’s as simple as that. Sebastian has been loyal to the company, with brief interruptions, since 1996. The fact that this requires a lot of exercise in advance also commands a certain respect from him for the challenging undertaking. The Quality Manager in the design organisation is the interface to all aviation authorities, under whose approval Lufthansa Technik designs modifications and repairs for aircraft. He does not find his work exhausting at all, but rather challenging and interesting. On the other hand, he is pleasantly exhausted after riding his racing bike: he counters this with a good shower and an extended rest period - or vice versa in demanding cases.

Reinhard Noack  - he doesn’t look like he’s 60 years. This must be down to his favorite road cycling routine: "A smile when you set off and a smile when you get off". And despite his knowledge and second habit that a racing cyclist must take better care of his backside than his face. This is not the only tip he passes on to his younger colleagues. After the Tour de Technik, the trained metal aircraft mechanic will go into partial retirement. Most recently, Reinhard was responsible for the airworthiness (CAMO) of aircraft. The racing bike will ensure that he is still ready for action in retirement.

Johannes Stirnemann - Project Engineer for Innovation and Product Development from Engine Services, loves crazy sporting events. That’s why he signed up for the Tour de Technik. He has already cycled 5,000 kilometers through Southeast Asia. But he has never conquered mountains higher than those in Hamburg. After this summer’s Tour de Technik across Germany, he will certainly have a few more meters of altitude on his speedometer, namely 7,500 meters. He is looking forward to mastering the tour together as a team. After that, he will be well prepared for his dream: cycling from Hamburg to Bangkok. But back by plane.

Sarah Nebelung - “Your only limit is your mind!” - She rode 40 kilometers with fixed brakes during a competition. The pride of having just changed the inner tube on her rear wheel for the first time on her own kept her pedaling hard. In the meantime, the industrial engineer has learned a lot. Her dream of cycling through the “Alte Land”, a picturesque area close to Hamburg, during apple blossom seems simple when you know that she has already successfully completed an Ironman. But Sarah loves crazy challenges - and not just sporting ones. As Senior Manager Customer Excellence, she gives all for our customers. Surpassing yourself she finds one of the best feelings. With the right support and music, almost everything works, she says with a laugh, humming “Don’t Stop Me Now”.

Bernhard Falk - is it because of his hobby of dancing standard and Latin that the 60-year-old doesn’t look 60 at all, or is it because of his passion for cycling? It’s probably a combination of the two. The agile aircraft engineer, who also has a great passion for quality, drives strategy and various projects in Central Materials Technology in his day-to-day work. Bernhard Falk is already giving the Tour de Technik the seal of quality, because he is convinced that this is where "Super Cycle Excellence in Motion goes on tour". His 17-year-old, carefully maintained classic aluminum bike will take him to his dream destination of Munich. He has wanted to cycle there for a long time. The feeling of jointly starting, riding, and arriving makes him look forward to this big event.
