Press release
Record number of new apprentices and dual students at Lufthansa Technik in Germany
This month, Lufthansa Technik welcomes 375 new colleagues who have opted for an apprenticeship or dual study program at the German locations or at subsidiaries and joint ventures in Germany. This once again surpassed last year's record number. It is remarkable that the company was able to successfully fill its entire contingent of training and study programs despite the fact that the apprenticeship market remains challenging throughout Germany. In total, more than 1,000 people are now undergoing an apprenticeship or dual studies at Lufthansa Technik in Germany.
Once again, technical and industrial professions account for by far the largest percentage of the more than a dozen different training programs, with some 90 percent of all new apprentices in the company occupying these positions. In addition, the Lufthansa Technik Group continues to provide targeted training in the areas of logistics and commerce. The number of new dual students, known as ”Technik Students” at the company, is down slightly to 41 compared to last year. The range of specializations here is also broad, from bachelor's and master's degree courses in traditional engineering discplines such as aircraft or mechanical engineering to industrial engineering and information technology, IT courses and applied physics.
Of the new apprenticeships and dual study programs, some 250 are directly attributable to Lufthansa Technik AG, approximately 60 are assigned to Lufthansa Airlines’ technical operations, and the remainder to companies within the Lufthansa Technik Group (see detailed list below). At almost twelve percent, the female quota among new recruits this year is once again in the double-digit range. The company's declared goal of significantly increasing the proportion of female employees remains unchanged. The Lufthansa Technik Group currently employs a total of 1,024 apprentices and dual students across all age groups. This number also sets a new record.
“We are naturally delighted to welcome a record number of new trainees and students, but setting records is more symbolic than anything else for us. The aspect of actively securing our future workforce is much more important, as our high-quality training makes an enormously important contribution to counteracting demographic developments of the near future,” says Alicja Polednia, Senior Director People Attraction, Development & Leadership at Lufthansa Technik. “The fact that we were able to fill all of the positions we advertised with great new talent not only shows how attractive our company is as an employer, but also underscores the effectiveness and innovative strength of our greatly intensified employer branding and recruiting activities.”
Just last year, Lufthansa Technik introduced its new employer brand ”Taking off together” with numerous campaigns and placements to raise awareness amoung the various target groups. The campaign’s flagship – in the truest sense of the word – is a passenger ferry completely redesigned in the style of the employer brand, used daily in Hamburg’s harbor area to advertise career opportunities at the company, not only to local commuters but also to visitors from outside Hamburg. Recruiting events on board the ferry, low-threshold digital information and direct application offers, as well as targeted advertising poster campaigns are further components of the concept that Lufthansa Technik successfully uses to assert itself in the often-cited ”War for Talents”.
For 2026, Lufthansa Technik plans to offer a similarly high number of apprenticeships and study programs, with the application phase having already begun in June of this year. Interested parties can find out about career opportunities and apply directly in German and English here.
