Aeromedical Solutions

The key for your successful mission

Turnkey projects

Besides the products themselves, Lufthansa Technik is capable of the design certification (21J), and realization of complete aeromedical cabins (21G and part 145) as a turnkey. Even the airframe itself can be included.

All of our products are designed to allow maximum flexibility and interchangeability between layouts and aircraft types. Consequently, the structural attachment and system integration is realized by individual adapter kits, allowing you to install the high-value assets in different types of aircraft.

With in-depth expert consultation, transport options for patients are identified for the respective MedEvac mission to care for patients along the rescue chain. Various setups of the different medical devices for the aircraft type and evacuation scenario are designed in expert consultation with Lufthansa Technik. The aim is to help medical planners make decisions and gain a manageable overview of the options within a very complex field.

All devices are qualified and certified in both regulatory regimes, aeronautical and medical. Typically, the devices and cabin solutions comply with civil EASA rules and the Medical Device Directive of the EU. The legal manufacturer of the products with respect to medical devices is typically a partner company, whereas Lufthansa Technik takes care of the aeronautical aspects.

We take on your challenge

The mission profiles of our customers are always different, so it requires an accurate screening of the needs and the mission itself, to ensure a smooth operation. Here are some examples of how we supported STRATEVAC operation planning with expert consultation in terms of both the aircraft possibilities and the mission.

Partner for humanitarian missions

At the height of the Ebola epidemic 2014, Lufthansa Technik was commissioned by Germany's Federal Foreign Office to convert an Airbus A340 into an evacuation aircraft for transporting and treat.

A321 turnkey project

The German Airforce has ordered two A321 LR aircraft, the successors of the A310 MRTT used for many years to date, as transport aircraft with a MedEvac configuration. Here is where Lufthansa Technik is delivering the complete project, including the airframe and completion. The A321 LR will have six PTU NG and 16 litter rack positions, plus seats.

Wide-body MedEvac layout

During the corona pandemic, we received several requests for high-capacity patient transport aircraft. Based on typical wide-body aircraft concepts, different types of litter racks have been developed to transport approximately 40 stretcher patients, all dependent on oxygen.
