10,000 m² logistics center inaugurated — Lufthansa Technik Aero Alzey continues to grow
- New logistics center doubles storage capacity and improves material availability for aircraft engines.
- Highly sustainable building design combined with modern digital infrastructure enables even more efficient logistics processes.
Lufthansa Technik Aero Alzey has officially opened a new logistics center together with representatives from politics and industry. Following months of planning, construction and successful commissioning, the new 10,000 m² facility at the Alzey site doubles the existing logistics space. This strengthens the efficiency of engine maintenance while laying the foundation for further growth.
The new building will serve as a storage and logistics hub for aircraft engines and spare parts. Four state-of-the-art racking systems and a digital warehouse management system not only increase capacity, but also ensure full transparency and traceability — from goods receipt to installation of parts in the engine. This enables Lufthansa Technik Aero Alzey to respond even faster and more precisely to production needs and to secure a continuous material supply.
Rubin Siddique, Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa Technik Aero Alzey, who welcomed among others Daniela Schmitt, Rhineland-Palatinate’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture, at the opening ceremony, said:
“The new logistics center is a decisive step for the future of our site and a clear commitment by Lufthansa Technik to our region. The doubled storage area and the modern digital infrastructure not only secure the supply of our production areas, but also create the basis for further growth.”
Minister Daniela Schmitt emphasized the project’s importance for the entire state:
“Today’s opening of the new Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey logistics center is a strong signal for the business location of Alzey and for the entire state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The investment strengthens industrial value creation in the region, secures jobs and training positions, and creates new prospects for qualified specialists. At the same time, supply chains become more robust and more efficient. The logistics center thus exemplifies what Rhineland-Palatinate stands for: an attractive industrial location where economic strength, good transport infrastructure, reliability, and future viability come together.”
Optimized logistics processes and digital infrastructure
The logistics center is currently piloting SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) — SAP’s advanced warehouse management system for real time control of warehousing and material flow — within the Lufthansa Technik Group. The next step is to extend the system to the production areas.
Sustainability in focus
The new logistics center meets the highest standards of environmentally friendly construction and has been certified to the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) Gold standard. Its sustainable features include a photovoltaic system to reduce CO₂ emissions, a green roof to improve the microclimate, and a high efficiency heat pump combined with industrial underfloor heating
