Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico
Maintenance and Overhaul Services for North, Central, and South America
Established in February 2014, Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico (LTPR) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik AG. The Puerto Rican company specializes in MRO services (maintenance, repair and overhaul) for the Airbus A320 range of short and medium-range aircraft. Puerto Rico thus joins Berlin, Hamburg, Shannon, Budapest, Malta and Sofia as Lufthansa Technik Group sites offering overhaul services for short and medium-range aircraft. From July 2015 the company employs up to 400 highly qualified personnel at an approximately 20,000 square meter facility at Rafael Hernández Airport in Aguadilla.
The new hangar has five maintenance lines and will primarily be used for heavy maintenance and overhaul checks (C, IL and D Checks) for short and medium-range aircraft. Thanks to the latest technology, one of the line offers the possibility to perform aircraft painting and maintenance in the same bay. This saves, above all, time and money, as the affected aircraft do not have to be towed to a separate paint hangar. Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico will be certified for both FAA Part 145 and EASA Part 145. Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico started operations on July 21, 2015.
The successful combination of short layovers and superbly well trained mechanics and engineers will enable the Puerto Rican service provider to deliver exceptional quality at competitive prices. The personnel have received excellent training from the local Civil Aviation Training Center and benefit from the many years of experience of the local Puerto Rico Aviation Maintenance Institute along with Lufthansa Technik´s outstanding training competence.
With its Puerto Rican location, Lufthansa Technik is primarily addressing the needs of customers from North, Central and South America with Airbus A310, A320, and A321 aircraft. The ideal geographical position at Aguadilla Airport in the northwest of the island will enable Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico to fulfil all customer needs in the region. The demand for comprehensive maintenance and overhaul services will continue to grow over the coming years, particularly for the Airbus A320 range of aircraft.
