XEOS, our joint venture company with GE Aviation (49 percent), has commenced creation of a state-of-the-art maintenance center for engines in Środa Śląska, near Wrocław, Poland. At the new site, located within the Polish Special Economic Zone of Legnica, the newest generation of GE engines, primarily the GEnx-2B, will be maintained, repaired, and overhauled starting in early 2019.
The new site will initially incorporate office, service, and operational buildings for approx. 150 engineers, office staff, and production personnel. An innovative test chamber for aircraft engines is planned as part of later expansions. As of 2021, the GE9X engine – currently still under development – is to be added to the service portfolio. Up to 2023 the total XEOS workforce will reach up to 600 employees.
Decisive for the selection of the location were the favorable location and well-developed road network mean that the new facility can enter operation rapidly. Further advantages include the availability of highly qualified personnel and the fact that parts of the engines to be maintained at the facility were designed by Polish engineers at the Engineering Design Center in Warsaw.
