High-Density Solution

Maximized passenger capacity for the Airbus A320 family

Today's intense competition between airlines, especially in the short- and medium-haul market, demands solutions that allow flight efficiency to be enhanced. With this fast-growing high-density market in mind, Lufthansa Technik has developed a product platform for the A320 family to meet these distinct demands and thus optimize both space and utilization.

Increasing passenger capacity

A new standard for passenger capacity was set with the introduction of the Airbus A320neo with 180 passengers. According to European regulators, the capacity of the A320 can be increased to a theoretical maximum of 195 seats. Lufthansa Technik designed and developed a High-Density Solution for the A320 in collaboration with several companies, such as Diehl Comfort Modules and Latécoère, with a wide range of features and modification options being offered.

A modular solution

One of the core modification elements of the High-Density Solution is the installation of double lavatories alongside the aft galley to gain extra cabin space – allowing an increased capacity of up to 186 passengers. The cabin solution also features a Direct View Camera System, which enables the airline to remove the forward-facing cabin attendant seat (CAS) that is usually placed in the aisle.

Increased seating capacity also requires enhancement of evacuation procedures. To ensure safe and rapid exit from the aircraft, new single-lane slides from our partner EAM Worldwide are to be installed.

Direct View Camera System (DVCS)

The Direct View Camera System (DVCS) is one of the highlights of the High-Density Solution. It enables cabin attendees sitting at the rear exits of the aircraft to maintain a direct digital view of the passengers. The forward-facing cabin attendant seat (CAS) can be removed. The DVCS is integrated in the newly developed galley.

The direct view system enhances flight comfort, safety and efficiency for both passengers and crew. Safety is improved thanks to a night vision feature (EASA approved), which ensures an overview of the cabin even in darkness. Removing the CAS reduces weight, fuel burn and eliminates man hours for the maintenance-prone seat.

Center Ceiling Stowage for crew equipment

In addition to the core modifications, customers also have the option of installing a Center Ceiling Stowage (CCS+) in the cabin, which can be used to store crew equipment such as emergency equipment. The CCS+ frees up valuable space in the overhead stowage compartments for the personal belongings of the passengers.

Your expert modification partner

With the support of Lufthansa Technik as a modification partner, customers can configure the product according to their individual needs, from consulting to material kits including Engineering Bulletins (EB) through to turnkey solutions. Moreover, Lufthansa Technik can further reduce additional downtime and time to market by integrating a modification event into a scheduled maintenance layover.
