Environmental Management worldwide
In a company that operates in many different countries the local requirements can differ widely. This affects the requirements for comprehensive environmental protection locally and for the entire company.
Lufthansa Technik tackles this through its environmental management structures. Environmental managers in the individual companies of the Lufthansa Technik Group work closely together to continually improve environmental performance worldwide.
In this connection the diversity within the Lufthansa Technik Group offers a major opportunity in the search for creative and innovative environmental protection solutions. Thanks to regular meetings and ongoing exchanges of ideas and information, "best practice" in one part of the company is adopted elsewhere and environmental protection projects are tackled together. In this way Lufthansa Technik is developing environmental protection standards that apply in the entire Lufthansa Technik Group. These include the definition and capture of environmental key figures for the Lufthansa Technik in a standard way that applies worldwide. Standardized monitoring allows the environmental impact of the Lufthansa Technik Group to be assessed in a uniform manner worldwide, ensuring a common basis for environmental protection targets and measures.
Successful environmental management depends on thinking beyond national, cultural and specialist boundaries. Thus environmental protection and health & safety go hand-in-hand at Lufthansa Technik. Environmental and health & safety principles are put into practice across the Group with the aid of a shared list of substances that are viewed as undesirable in the company. All materials and products that are to be used at Lufthansa Technik are examined in advance from both environmental and health & safety points of view in a standard process.
Certification of the environmental management system to ISO 14001 creates a common basis for this. Lufthansa Technik AG has been certified to this international standard since 1999. Health & safety is also certified to international standard OHSAS 18001.
