About environmental management
Lufthansa Technik aims to incorporate environmental protection into daily practice and to introduce environmental requirements into all new procedures, products and equipment. This calls for safety, the efficient use of energy and resources and lower emissions. For this reason it is particularly important that the processes and sequences of operations at Lufthansa Technik are implemented in an environmentally sound, loss-free and sustainable fashion.
To ensure that this is the case, Lufthansa Technik's Environment department is integrated into the company's key central processes with the aim of achieving both short- and long-term reductions in the consumption of water, energy and materials and of ensuring that hazardous substances are handled in a responsible way:
- Equipment- and building-related processes
- Hangar operations
- External cleaning of aircraft
- Cleaning of aircraft parts
- Surface treatments
- Location-specific peculiarities
To support and implement the environmental processes, Lufthansa Technik has introduced an integrated management system consisting of the "Integrated Management Manual" and the IQ MOVE quality management system. The system applies to every business unit of Lufthansa Technik, including the Lufthansa Technik subsidiaries, which are an integral part of the company under aviation law, and is mandatory for all employees. This system incorporates the requirements arising from quality management, air safety, health and safety at work and environmental protection in either process- or role-oriented fashion.
