Engine Tooling

Qualified expert advice

As repair development agency and certified warranty repair station for CFMI, IAE, GE and P&W engines, Lufthansa Technik has an unrivalled qualification to support customers in the field of engine tooling – ranging from basic engine handling devices to equipping a new maintenance facility.

The tooling necessary to service an aircraft engine depends on the desired maintenance level. Whereas line maintenance requires only a minimum of equipment for on-wing activities, each further step necessitates a larger number of increasingly complex and expensive devices. In addition the handling requirements also differ very much among operators.

Lufthansa Technik has the experience to deliver qualified expert advice on original and supplementary equipment. While original equipment is recommended by the manufacturer, these recommendations are not individualized. This is where Lufthansa Technik can step in. Keeping the respective customer's operational requirements in mind, the Lufthansa Technik consultants are able to assemble an optimized recommendation. The customer only needs to provide the documentation or drawings.

Supplementary equipment constitutes a particular strength of Lufthansa Technik. Drawing from the unique experience of its engine shops, a number of proprietary devices was developed and made available to customers. Developed by Lufthansa Technik, the CFM56 low-pressure turbine major module container is an example for this unique competence in tooling. The certified steel container is easier to repair than its original fiberglass equivalent and carries a lower price tag at the same time. Thus, it highlights Lufthansa Technik's goal of offering improved performance at reduced costs for aircraft and engine tooling.
