The largest Airbus customer
Beginning with the A300 more than 40 years ago, the Lufthansa Group, especially its technical arm (today's Lufthansa Technik), has played an important role in Airbus' success story to this day.
Biggest Airbus operator worldwide
At the beginning of the 1970s, Lufthansa placed a firm order for three aircraft for delivery by June 1975, with nine options. These modest beginnings marked the start of Airbus's unprecedented success story. Today, Lufthansa Group is Airbus' largest airline customer, with more than 530 aircraft ordered in total. The airline group is also Airbus' biggest operator worldwide with 385 Airbus aircraft currently in service. These include: 271 A320 family, 41 A330s, 63 A340s, and ten A380s.
Contributing valuable expertise
And Lufthansa Technik has played an important role in this success to this day, as Lufthansa experts have contributed valuable technical and commercial expertise into the development of every new Airbus type. Its far-reaching competence in the popular narrowbody A320 family, for example, is reflected in the MRO provider's success in having delivered industry-first services for these types in the CIS market region in the 1990s.
Airbus widebody competence
Furthermore, Lufthansa Technik's A330/A340 Customer Community Conference was the industry's main platform for operators to exchange first-hand information and establish best practices for keeping the technical reliability of their Airbus widebody fleets high. Continuing this successful tradition, Lufthansa Technik has been involved in the development of the Airbus A380 from the beginning. Ensuring all the necessary maintenance was up and running from day one, the new flagship has been flying with a very high reliability.
