Specialist for automation solutions in aviation
3D.aero was established in December 2017 as a joint venture in which Lufthansa Technik and Pepperl+Fuchs hold equal stakes. The joint venture is based in the ZAL TechCenter in Hamburg-Finkenwerder. The start-up will explore, develop and sell innovative automation solutions for the aerospace industry as well as work on solutions for the digitalization of maintenance workshops. This work will also involve the application of optical measurement devices, digital inspection and image-processing applications and related consulting services.
The key reason that the ZAL TechCenter was chosen as the new company's base was its proximity to other industrial companies in the aviation industry and the corresponding opportunity to establish networks. The company will work as a modern start-up with flat hierarchies. Its young team is primarily made up of employees from Pepperl+Fuchs and graduates of the Institute of Aircraft Production Technology at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).
With Pepperl+Fuchs, Lufthansa Technik was able to bring a global leader in the production of electronic components and sensors for factory and process automation on board as a partner. This will help the company continue to systematically pursue its company-wide strategy regarding Industry 4.0, with the know-how applied to the development of new products and processes. 3D.aero was set up as part of a specific project in the area of aircraft engines, but is also available for all areas of Lufthansa Technik and a range of other aviation companies. With the new joint venture, Pepperl+Fuchs will now be able to contribute its many years of experience in industrial automation to the aviation industry.
