Within the Lufthansa Technik Group, Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) in Manila is a competence center for the maintenance and overhaul of Airbus A319, A320, A321, A330-200/-300, A340-200/-300/-600 and the A380. Founded in September 2000 as a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik (51 percent) and the Philippine MacroAsia Corporation (49 percent), Lufthansa Technik Philippines offers its international customers a growing portfolio of wide-ranging technical services.
Lufthansa Technik Philippines opened its first overhaul line for Airbus long-haul aircraft in 2002. After a second production line became operational in January 2004, a third hangar for widebody aircraft, which is 8,500 square meters large and 35 meters in height, was opened in February 2012. The new hangar offers space to work simultaneously on one widebody and two narrowbody aircraft. In addition to the existing 2,700 jobs the continuous growth of the company leads to up 400 new highly-technology and high-skills jobs.
Thanks to its expanded capacity, Lufthansa Technik Philippines is now able to offer a full range of services, from the maintenance of aircraft and engines to extensive modifications, cabin upgrades and paintwork for the Airbus A320, A330, A340, Boeing 737 and 747-400. With opening of the new A380 maintenance hangar Lufthansa Technik Philippines will be able to keep up with the increasing demand for technical services for long-haul aircraft in the Asian market. By adding A380 capability, it underscores the company´s role as global aircraft overhaul center. The service spectrum of Lufthansa Technik's Philippines subsidiary also includes the testing and overhaul of a number of aircraft components.
Today Lufthansa Technik Philippines maintains and overhauls not only the entire fleet of Philippine Airlines but commercial aircraft belonging to 30 other Asian and international airlines as well. Here the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company concentrates especially on the rapidly growing market of the A330/A340 aircraft family as well as for A380s. The expansion of its capability to include the A380 is a natural step for this Lufthansa Technik flagship in Asia.Lufthansa Technik Philippines has about 20 approvals from aviation authorities including the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and numerous other national civil aviation authorities.
To ensure that the company can continue to guarantee top quality at competitive prices in the future, Lufthansa Technik Philippines actively exchanges experience and expertise with other companies in the Lufthansa Technik Group. Thus, for example, Lufthansa Technical Training supports LTP by giving technical courses and training. In this way the trainees can acquire extensive theoretical and practical knowledge that will enable them to gain the internationally recognized EASA Part 66 license amongst other qualifications.
Lufthansa Technik Philippines is part of the international network of Lufthansa Technik for the overhaul of medium-range and long-range aircraft, which has ten sites altogether in Europe and Asia. Apart from Lufthansa Technik Philippines, these are: Hamburg, Berlin Schoenefeld, Shannon Aerospace in Ireland, Lufthansa Technik Budapest, the two subsidiaries in Malta and Sofia, Bulgaria, Lufthansa Technik Maintenance International in Frankfurt and Ameco Beijing in China. Within the network, Lufthansa Technik offers a wide range of overhaul services for aircraft of nearly all major airframers, from painting services and cabin modifications to the D-check, which is the complete overhaul of a commercial aircraft.
