Nonstop forward. One step ahead.
Only an MRO provider with the most modern technologies delivers its customers the maximum benefit. This is why Lufthansa Technik is quadrupling its investment in innovation – from 50 million euros over the past five years to 200 million euros for the period up to 2018. Innovation offers more than just tremendous potential for differentiating ourselves from the competition, it's also the source of profitable cost savings for both Lufthansa Technik and its customers.
In this dedicated section of our website, you'll discover the benefits of our innovation projects. Browse the sections below to find out about projects that are currently underway and products that are already available to our customers.
Products and Services
Your needs shape our services
For Lufthansa Technik, innovation is not a final destination; rather, we pool the innovative strength of all our business units to generate real value for our customers with new products. That means the continuous research and development process ends in purchasable products and services, for example for the cabin and the cockpit. All cockpit and cabin products offered by Lufthansa Technik as an original equipment manufacturer are developed, planned, manufactured and sold by Lufthansa Technik's new product division Original Equipment Innovation (OEI).
Thanks to our close connection to the development and market introduction of new generations of aircraft, Lufthansa Technik continues to be the first choice for the most modern technology and thereby for the most technologically advanced services. And when it comes to integrating individual services into a comprehensive package for everything aircraft-related, we have set the bar with our Total Services.
Innovative MRO repair and process innovations
For many years, "lean production" has been a key element of change in the workshops of Lufthansa Technik. But there's even more going on behind the doors of our hangars and workshops: innovative repair and process innovations lead to significant cost savings in MRO, e.g. by cutting down turnaround times.
Cutting down the cost per flight hour
There are many factors that have a strong influence on the cost per flight hour. Key issues are the performance of the engines, the weight of the aircraft and the overall aircraft aerodynamics. Lufthansa Technik's engineers have many ideas for innovative products and processes that aim at cost-efficient aircraft operations.
operations & "green MRO"
Supporting sustainable production and operations
Innovation projects can combine economic and ecologic advantages. Sustainable production and the sparing use of resources often go hand in hand with saving money. Wherever possible, Lufthansa Technik supports "green MRO" activities and environmentally friendly operations.
Contributing to high-tech aircraft cabins
The aircraft cabin is like a business card: to the passenger, it communicates the image of the airline or aircraft operator. Inflight entertainment, seating, lighting and even cabin acoustics all have an influence on the well-being of the passenger. Lufthansa Technik has exciting ideas for attractive, modern products for any size aircraft cabin.
Upgrade of aircraft
Improving in-service aircraft through operational experience
Airframers and component suppliers know the strengths of their products – and Lufthansa Technik knows their weaknesses, based on decades of experience in repair. That is why we are able to improve in-service aircraft by introducing new or upgraded components with improved features and longer service lives.
Best data safety
and IT interfaces
Supporting aircraft operators with innovative tools and processes
Aircraft operators must fulfill their responsibilities towards aviation authorities completely and without question. Lufthansa Technik provides innovative IT products and processes to support aircraft operators in meeting this goal. Interfaces between applications and secure data storage contribute to the teamwork between operator and MRO provider.
Higher reliability and
availability of aircraft
Keeping up the aircraft's asset value
From an operator's perspective, an aircraft only earns money when it is airborne. Planned or even unplanned downtime means lost revenues. Process innovations by Lufthansa Technik contribute to higher aircraft reliability and availability, and dedicated products add to the aircraft's asset value.
