24 training positions for tool mechanics in 2009
An opportunity for elementary school graduates
The tool mechanics at Lufthansa Technik’s home base in Hamburg are specialists in the production of highly sophisticated components and work with advanced machines and materials that others can only dream of. In 2009, the company will significantly increase the number of training positions available for this future-oriented profession. 24 young men and women will begin their apprenticeship in Hamburg in summer next year. Those who apply now will have the best chances of being accepted.
Anyone who is technically gifted and does not shy at mathematics and physics basically meets the most important requirements for becoming a tool mechanic. As far as their personal qualities are concerned, applicants should enjoy working with modern technology, be able to work well in a team, and have the necessary perseverance to meet complex challenges.
The training lasts three-and-a-half years, during which the apprentices get to know a wide a range of materials, machines and tasks, using not only conventional machine tools but also their latest, computer-based counterparts.
The trainees have the prospect of a subsequent career at the company, usually in high-level special workshops for engine, landing gear and component maintenance or in repair development engineering.
“An elementary/secondary school certificate is generally sufficient to meet our academic requirements. Today, the profession involves a great deal of computer technology, as it is necessary to develop extensive control programmes for the machines. This is one of the reasons why more and more women are taking an interest in this type of job,” explains training supervisor Artur Boguth, who is responsible for the apprentice tool mechanics at Lufthansa Technical Training.
Applications are being accepted now at www.be-lufthansa.de under the section Entry Options/Vocational Training, which also gives further details about the profession.
