Lufthansa Technik Philippines working on its 50th heavy check

Additional widebody hangar planned

Lufthansa Technik Philippines recently started work on its 50th heavy check on an aircraft of the A330/A340 family, underscoring the stature it has achieved as one of the leading providers of overhauls for Airbus long-haul aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region. “Our policy of focusing on the fast growing A330/A340 aircraft market, which is growing particularly fast in Asia, has been vindicated,” said LTP President and CEO Bernhard Krueger-Sprengel upon the arrival of a Cathay Pacific Airbus A340. “Our growing customer base bears testimony to the high quality and extremely competitive throughput times which have propelled us to the forefront of the competition.”
"Cathay Pacific Airways would like to congratulate Lufthansa Technik Philippines on the occasion of its 50th heavy maintenance check. This milestone is truly a testament of the company’s strengthening reputation as an A330/A340 specialist. We appreciate the support and friendship that the LTP employees have extended to us “, said Darryl Chan, Cathay Pacific Engineering Planning Manager as the aircraft was handed over. In addition to Philippine Airlines and Lufthansa, the airlines which trust in LTP to perform base maintenance checks on their long-haul Airbus aircraft today include Air Mauritius, Air Tahiti Nui, Austrian Airlines, bmi, Cathay Pacific Airways, Gulf Air, Jet Airways, Thomas Cook Airlines and Qantas Airways. The overhaul lines in the four-bay hangar at the international airport of Manila are so highly utilized that Lufthansa Technik Philippines is drawing up plans to construct an additional hangar with a widebody bay.
The joint venture between Lufthansa Technik (51%) and the Philippine MacroAsia Corporation (49%), which today employs a workforce of 2,700, opened its first overhaul line for Airbus long-haul aircraft in 2002, two years after its foundation in 2002. The second overhaul line was commissioned in January 2004, and since October 2005 overhauls have also been offered for aircraft of the Airbus A320 family.
