Grand Opening Ceremony of the new Joint Venture with MTU
Concentrating on repairing Low Pressure Turbine Blades
The new Joint Venture between Lufthansa Technik and MTU Aero Engines is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and has been officially declared open recently with a grand opening ceremony. This opening event followed the signing of the Joint Venture Contract by the two chairmen of the boards Dr. Klaus Steffens (MTU) and Mr. August Wilhelm Henningsen (Lufthansa Technik) in Hanover, Germany, in the beginning of April.
Participating in this grand opening ceremony in Malaysia were not only the management and the board members of Airfoil Services Sdn. Bhd. (ASSB) but also the Ambassador of Germany in Malaysia, Mr. Jürgen A. R. Staks. In one of the four speeches that were held, the German ambassador pointed out that this Joint Venture company will not only serve the interest of its shareholders to strengthen their worldwide market appearance but it will also set a sign in the Malaysian aviation industry that the combination High Technology and Low-Cost location can make a difference in the global MRO industry.
The joint venture concentrates on repairing LPT blades of CF6-50, CF6-80, CFM56-3, CFM56-5 and V2500 aero engines. It also overhauls compressor blades of the V2500 engine. The company currently has about 100 employees, a number that is expected to reach 280 by the year 2008.
