Center of excellence for A330/A340 overhaul
Established in September 2000 as a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG and Philippine-based MacroAsia Corporation, Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) offers wide-ranging aircraft services to international customers. It is primarily the Lufthansa Technik Group’s global overhaul center for Airbus A330 and A340 widebody aircraft.LTP has a four-bay hangar and workshops occupying 110,000 square meters in Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Inside are facilities that were upgraded to the highest industry standards to accommodate airframe maintenance, major modifications, cabin reconfigurations, engine maintenance, and painting for Airbus A330, A340, A320, Boeing B747-400 and B737 aircraft. LTP has earned repair station certifications from the US-FAA, EASA (JAA) and other airworthiness authorities.
Full technical services provided to Philippine Airlines
The entire Philippine Airlines fleet of Boeing and Airbus jets is also maintained by LTP, which extends comprehensive technical and engineering support. Nineteen other carriers entrust their aircraft to highly qualified LTP technicians, who are responsible for releasing close to a thousand flights each week in Manila, Cebu and Davao. In addition to exchanging know-how with companies of the Lufthansa Technik Group, LTP is joined by Lufthansa Technical Training in providing initial and advanced technical courses. Apprentices receive extensive classroom and hand-on training that prepares them to qualify for the internationally recognized EASA Part-66 license (former JAR-66 license).
First European D-check customers
Having initially completed seven overhauls or D-checks successfully for Philippine Airlines, LTP welcomed its first European customer, an Austrian Airlines Airbus A330, in October 2003—with a Lufthansa German Airlines Airbus A340 following closely (Austrian Airlines is bringing all its Airbus A330/A340s for overhaul to Manila until 2006). LTP was able to meet the high standards of both European carriers for workmanship and turnaround times. Its favorably priced overhaul services would make a ferry flight attractive even for customers from the Americas. In early-2004 a second production line was commissioned, enabling LTP to now perform two aircraft overhauls simultaneously. A second overhaul line gives it more flexibility to serve the global market for D-checks and other base maintenance activities, including modifications and C-checks.
LTP seeks to take advantage of its proximity to Airbus A330/A340 operators in Asia. Airbus A330 and A340 are aircraft models currently in very intensive use in the region: over one-third of the world´s present fleet is flown by Asian airlines. Having built a track record for short downtimes and Lufthansa quality standard, LTP is more than ready to extend this performance to a larger customer base.
